Welcome to my blog. I'm a blind iOS developer who writes about technology, artificial intelligence, investing, accessibility, and life in general. I use AI as a coding partner and write about what I learn along the way.
All entries are written by me and edited with AI assistance. I'm transparent about the tools I use because I believe AI makes us more capable, not less human.

The Devil's Excrement
April 9th, 2026

Let's talk about prices. When I went shopping the other day, every single price had gone up except for a 5-pound bag of potatoes. For some reason that was like $2.75. I believe they call that a loss leader.
Now you can blame whoever you want on all this. I'm not here to do that. Let me explain to you where I think the problem is.
The fertilizer we grow the food with is an oil byproduct. The packaging that we put it in—plastic—is an oil byproduct. Vinyl siding is the most common exterior of buildings today. And it is an oil byproduct. Vinyl windows are an oil byproduct. Gasoline. Diesel. Jet fuel. Cosmetics. The list goes on and on and on.
We have allowed ourselves to become completely dependent on oil. It's cheaper and easier. It's extremely energy dense. But we are fucking ourselves by being so dependent on it.
There is a reason that in the 70s, a Venezuelan minister of oil called oil "the devil's excrement" and said it would ruin Venezuela.
We have to break this dependency. There is a finite supply. It's not found everywhere. All of the shit going on in the world today can be linked back to fucking oil.
This is not going to be a long blog post because it does not need to be. It is that simple. Oil is the problem. It is the devil's excrement.
Cheap Easy and Lazy
I don't have the solution. But we don't have to make everything out of oil. We are addicted to cheap and easy. We have to break the cycle.
If there are stairs and an escalator, 98% of people are going to use the escalator. Only 2% of people choose the hard way. we need to start asking ourselves, our politicians really the problem?
If you liked this, please share. It helps me immensely…
